What To Do When a Debt Collector Calls You at Work

If a debt collector keeps calling you at your job after you have told them your employer does not allow such calls, they may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

Your rights under 15 U.S.C. 1692c

The FDCPA prohibits collectors from contacting you at work when they know or have reason to know your employer prohibits it.

What you should do

Tell the collector clearly that your employer does not allow these calls.
Write down the date, time, and the name of the caller.
Save any voicemails or messages.

If the calls continue, you may be entitled to statutory damages of up to 1,000 dollars, plus attorney fees. The Prado Law Firm reviews these cases at no cost to you.
